Shockwave Therapy | Max Physiotherapy | Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Massage and Health & Wellness Clinic | NE Calgary

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive therapy that is used to heal soft tissue injuries. Using an acoustic wave to carry high energy to the chronic painful area, these sound waves help regenerate and enhance blood circulation to repair damage of the bones, tendons, and other soft tissues. It has been shown to be highly successful for a wide variety of conditions.

What is Involved in Shockwave Therapy

The length of a session varies from patient to patient, depending on the condition being treated. Typically, treatment takes between 10-20 minutes. First, the specific area to be treated is located using palpation. Next, a gel is applied to the area in order to allow the acoustic waves to transfer smoothly and efficiently. Finally, the shockwave applicator is pushed lightly against that area to be treated and the treatment begins. There may be some slight discomfort during treatment, depending on the level of pain the patient is already experiencing. However, most patients are able to tolerate the discomfort with little problem. The entire process lasts only 5-10 minutes. The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient, but typically 3-5 treatments are performed. Often though, you will experience relief immediately after the first treatment.
